Important Leeland Road/7-11 Vendor Update

Leeland Road Ticket Vendor Update:

Good news!

We have reached an agreement for Ticket Vending Services with corporate 7-11, who will be taking over the store at 327 Deacon Road.

Beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 29th, the store will back up and available for VRE ticket sales.

Riders who purchased tickets with cash, credit or with their assigned smart benefits, can do so again at this location.

As VRE considers the long tern future of this location, we will be sure to keep you informed going forward.

We appreciate you patience, and thank you

Leeland Road Ticket Vendor Update

Effective this Friday, July 25th, our Leeland Road/7-11 vendor located at 327 Deacon Road will no longer be available for the purchase of VRE tickets due to the expected sale of this business. The last day for ticket purchase at this location will be tomorrow, Thursday, July 24th.

We regret this inconvenience and last minute notice. For those whose Electronic Smart Benefits go to this vendor, we are working on reaching a new agreement with the new owner, Corporate Seven-Eleven, and we will send out a follow up on the status of that effort soon.  We are also making plans for alternate options for Electronic Smart Benefits passengers should we not be able to reach agreement with Seven-Eleven.

While we go through the process of searching for a more permanent solution, a list of other Fredericksburg line vendors can be found on our website at http://www.vre.org/service/vendor3.htm. Downtown/inner station vendors can be found online at http://www.vre.org/service/vendor1.htm.

If you have any questions, please call us at 703-684-1001 or email us at Gotrains@vre.org.

This Afternoons Delays

This Afternoons Delays

=20

We would like to apologize to those who were delayed this evening on=
their trip home. We had a couple of issues that resulted in delaying our=
first few trains out.  First, Fredericksburg Line train 301 (Depart=
s Union Station at 12:55 pm) was held up just south of the Alexandria sta=
tion due to switch issues at the AF interlocking.  This resulted in =
the train crew needing to manually throw the switch so 301 could be lined=
up properly to continue to Franconia Springfield.  This resulted in=
a 28 minute delay by the time 301 reached Fredericksburg.

Manassas Line train 325 (Departs Union Station at 1:15 pm) was the nex=
t train to reach the switch, and also had to manually throw the switch to=
line the train properly to Manassas.  While this caused a delay, th=
e bigger issue came shortly after the train reached the Norfolk Southern =
line.  The crew was informed of a brush fire that was along the trac=
ks and was restricting traffic in the area near Edsall Road.  The tr=
ain was held at the Edsall Road interlocking for the fire to be contained=
.  Once the fire was out, traffic could not resume until a track ins=
pector arrived to confirm that all was safe to proceed.  325’s=
train set is used again in the afternoon service, and the delays meant t=
hat it would not be able to make it all the way to Broad Run and back in =
time for it’s later run.  Since we could not move it further S=
outh/West, we decided to bring it back to Alexandria where folks could ei=
ther ride the next Southbound Manassas train, 327 (Departs Union Station =
at 3:45 pm) or opt for another means of travel home.

The train congestion caused by the earlier switch issues on the CSX li=
ne caused 325 to take even more time coming back north, but we were able =
to get it into Alexandria in time for everyone to transfer to 327.  =
325’s train set was then able to return to Union Station for the af=
ternoon service, and the track inspector cleared the affected track in ti=
me for 327 to pass through the Edsall Road area.

It was an unfortunate set of circumstances that resulted in excessive =
delays for the 119 passengers onboard 325.  As we write this, the de=
lays have cleared and traffic is once again moving smoothly.
