Manassas 327 is act=
ually scheduled to depart Union Station at 3:45pm, not 4:25pm as stated b=
elow in the previous Train Talk.

We apologize for an=
y confusion.

To help accommodate the larger crowds expected on the earlier trains t=
his afternoon, we have adjusted the consist (train) lengths so that our l=
ongest trains are the early trains out.

On the Fredericksbu=
rg Line, 301 (Departs Union Station at 12:55) will have 7 cars and 303 (d=
eparts Union Station at 3:35) will have 8 cars.

On the Manassas Lin=
e, 325 (departs Union Station at 1:15) will have 8 cars and 327 (departs =
Union Station at 4:25) will have 7 cars.

These adjustments s=
hould eliminate the crowding conditions that we saw yesterday.

When deciding wheth=
er to run an “S” schedule for the holiday season, we projecte=
d the daily ridership to be between 6,000 and 10,000 riders each day for =
the entire system. That is between 40 and 50% of our normal daily ridersh=
ip and can be accommodated with the “S” schedule. On December=
26th and 27th, we saw about 6500 passengers, valid=
ating our decision.  Yesterday, we carried 12,000 passengers.  =
Most of those riders were on the early trains, creating conditions that w=
ere extremely crowded.  We had longer consists on several of those m=
orning trains, but failed to react quickly enough to open the additional =
cars that could have minimized the crowding. We had the additional cars o=
pen for the afternoon trips.

We will make adjust=
ments to our operating plans going forward so that we may avoid situation=
s like this in the future.

Thank you for your =
patience and for continuing to make VRE your commuting choice.

Have a Safe and Hap=
py New Year,
