Equipment Changes Beginning July 1

=20

After listening to riders’ concerns, VRE has located additional fundin=
g and are able to an additional car beginning Monday, July 1, 2013. Also =
with that change, we are swapping equipment around to accommodate ridersh=
ip.

Below are the affected trains and the number of cars they will have:

Northbound

Fredericksburg 304 (Departs Fredericksburg @ 5:40am) 8 cars
Frede=
ricksburg 306 (Departs Fredericksburg @ 6:05am) 7 cars
Fredericksbur=
g 308 (Departs Fredericksburg @ 6:30am) 7 cars

Southbound
Fredericksburg 307 (Departs Union Station @ 4:40pm) 7 =
cars
Fredericksburg 309 (Departs Union Station @ 5:15pm) 8 cars

While we were swapping the 8 car set between Fredericksburg 307 (Monda=
ys and Fridays) and Fredericksburg 309 (Tuesday-Thursday), effective July=
1, 2013, 307 will consistently have 7 cars while 309 will have 8.

We are glad to add additional service for our riders and continue to l=
ook for every opportunity to do so.

As always, thank you for riding VRE!

Scheduled Track Maintanence Next Week

Scheduled Track Maintanence Next Week

=20

For one week beginning on Sunday, June 23, CSX will perform scheduled =
maintenance from about L’Enfant to a little south of Woodbridge. The good=
news is that the track work is scheduled to be performed outside of our =
service hours and should not block any tracks while our trains are operat=
ing. However, there will be some lingering speed restrictions after the w=
ork is complete. We will be sure to let riders know about any changes tha=
t will significantly affect service.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

As always, thanks for riding VRE.

We Want to Hear from You!

What Should Regional Transportation =
Priorities Be?

The Northern Virginia =
Transportation
Authority
(NVTA) is a regional governmental entity comprised of 14 vo=
ting
members and three non-voting members to fund regional transportation prog=
rams.
The NVTA covers
Arlington, Fairfax=
, Loudoun and =
Prince William
counties and the cities
of
Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas=
and Manassas Park.

=

The Virginia G=
eneral Assembly
created the
NVTA in 2002 to be responsible
for long-range t=
ransportation planning for regional transportation
projects in Northern Virginia. In carrying out this responsibility, the
Authority on the basis of a regional consensus, whenever possible, will s=
et
regional transportation policies and priorities for regional transportati=
on
projects. The policies and priorities shall be guided by performance-base=
d
criteria such as the ability to improve travel times, reduce delays, conn=
ect
regional activity centers, improve safety, improve air quality, and move =
the
most people in the most cost-effective manner.

In 2013 the Virginia Gene=
ral Assembly passed
a comprehensive legislative transportation package
aimed at =
relieving congestion,
established a new transportation revenue source for Northern Virginia, wh=
ich is
estimated to bring  the region $300-330 million a year over the next=
five
years.  It will be allocated through the Northern Virginia Transport=
ation
Authority Fund
.

The proposed VRE projects=
designated for funding so far include:

Lorton =
Station second platform

=

Alexandria Station platform improvements and
pedestrian tunnel

Gainesville-Haymarket Extension Project Development

Beyond these projects, VR=
E is also continuing
to advance the idea of fleet acquisition (railcars) with the NVTA and its=

various committees as future consideration.

So what projects do you want to see? Officials n=
eed to know what the public feels is important.

On June 20, 2013, NVTA wi=
ll be holding a
public hearing on the proposed project list. VRE asks that each of you, a=
s both
riders and informed citizens, review the proposed list and future list an=
d
share your thoughts with NVTA.
The complete list of projects=
and
detailed information about them can be found at:
www.TheNoVaAuthority.org=
, or at http://vre.org/about/NVTA.html.

To provide your feedback you can go to the pub=
lic hearing on June 20th, or fill out a public comment form at http://www.thenovaauthority.org/=
PDFs/HB2313%20Working%20Groups/NVTA_Comment-Form_060413.pdf, or simply wr=
ite to gotrains@vre.org.

Passenger Information Campaign

“What Makes the Wheels
Turn at VRE”

Our summer passenger information
campaign continues with our bicycle theme. Today’s article is on collapsi=
ble and folding bikes. Our trains are crowded and full sized bikes can’t =
be accommodated in every car so for those who wish to utilize the
=
bicycling/train combo collapsible/folding bikes on VRE might be the way t=
o go.

Next week we’ll revisit the validation=
process and cover our queuing policy.

The collapsible bike article can be fo=
und can be found on
