— PRESS RELEASE —

For Immediat=

3D=Tysons Express Offers Free Fares on Monday

Come Celebrate Earth Day and =
a Ridership
Milestone

April 18, 2013 =E2=80=94 OmniRide=E2=80=99s Tysons Express will of=
fer free rides on Monday,
April 22, 2013, to celebrate Earth Day and to mark the fact that one mill=
ion
riders have taken advantage of the two regional Tysons buses routes that =
are
funded by Virginia Megaprojects.

In 2009, Virginia Megaprojects started funding the Tysons
Express-Woodbridge bus service to help provide commuting options during t=
he
construction of the I-495 High Occupancy Toll lanes.  T=
he Tysons Express-Loudoun service started in
2010 to help mitigate congestion during construction of Metro=E2=80=99s S=
ilver
Line.  Both the Woodbridge and Loudoun
bus lines offer comfortable transportation with free Wi-Fi, enabling pass=
engers
to go online, read or sleep rather than worrying about driving on the con=
gested
roadways.

Since the services started, Virginia Megaprojects estimates
that one million riders have left their cars behind and chosen to ride th=
e bus
to and from Tysons.  In February, the
Tysons Express-Woodbridge bus schedule was revised to reflect an average =
time
savings of 20 minutes now that the HOT lanes are open!

          =
            &=
nbsp;

The Tysons Express-Woodbridge service has two local stops at
the Woodbridge VRE station and the Route 123 / I-95 commuter lot.&n=
bsp;
There are four trips to Tysons in the
mornings and five return trips in the afternoons/evenings.  Easy transfers are available at the
Woodbridge VRE station for those who ride VRE and live south of Prince Wi=
lliam
County.  Once in Tysons, passengers have
their choice of 16 bus stops and also can connect to a shuttle serving ea=
stern
Tysons.

Promotional bus fares on the Tysons Express-Woodbridge
service are currently available at $2.65 per trip with a SmarTrip card or=
$3.30
per trip with cash.  But VRE monthly pass
holders who board the bus at the Woodbridge VRE station ride for free in =
the
mornings and only have to pay a bus fare for the evening commute!

The Tysons Express service is entirely funded by Virginia
Megaprojects, a partnership between the Virginia Department of Transporta=
tion
and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.&nbsp=
;

To learn more about Tysons Express including schedule
information, call the PRTC Customer Service Office at (703) 730-6664 or v=

Meet
the Management Continues Tomorrow at L’Enfant for All Evening Trains

Every other week for the =
next
several months, the Management and the staff of VRE will be available to =
chat,
field questions, and hand out snacks. Joining us will be management from
Keolis.

We’ll be available for al=
l

Burke Centre Riders -
Keep the “BUS ONLY” area clear for bus traffic

Last January we cautioned=
VRE passengers
who are using the Burke VRE bus loop as an unauthorized kiss-n-ride. This=
was
presenting an operational problem for the buses and is a safety concern (=
for
both the buses and the cars).

Fairfax County now inform=
s us that any car that parks in the “BUSES ONLY” bus bays while
waiting for the incoming trains will be ticketed by Fairfax County
police.

Please do not park in the bus loop and do not
block buses.

A Special Statement from VRE

=

A Special Statement from VRE

=20

This afternoon, there were =
explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon in=20
Massachusetts. There are confirmed fatalities and many more injured.

=

The Virginia Railway Express=20
operates at a heightened sense of security on a regular basis.

Th=
is afternoon, we renew our request for passengers to be vigilant and repo=
rt=20
suspicious activity. 911 works across our system and your crews are all a=
great=20
resource for helping address any concerns you have.

We hold annu=
al training for our over one hundred undercover law enforcement=20
officer program partners on how to view possible threats within a railroa=
d=20
environment and most of those individuals will be riding with you this ev=
ening,=20
unseen, but always watching.

Additionally, we constantly engage =
with all first response agencies in the area=20
as well as agents of the TSA, FBI and the railroads’ police forces in tra=
ining=20
events to provide a layer of protection to VRE’s passengers.

Safety Notice: Here comes the heat!

=

Safety Notice: Here comes the heat!

=20

=

Tuesday, April 09, 2013

Here c=
omes the heat…

For those of=
you who haven’t yet gotten a chance to step outside of your office, some=
where in the mix of this past weekend, summer just showed up. This means =
that some while many of us still have coats hanging on the hooks by our d=
oors, things like sunscreen and a few extra drinks of water will be neces=
sary.

Aside from these obvious war=
m weather necessities, we’d like to remind you of a few crucially importa=
nt steps to take as a VRE commuter:

Cigarettes/Cigars: For those who smoke, we cannot stress proper=
disposal techniques enough. During afternoon/evening service operations =
on Tuesday, we had brush fires on both lines. These fires were not likely=
due to improperly discarded cigarettes, but the need to be wary of how c=
igarettes or cigars are disposed of is no less important. Each platform i=
s equipped with one or more butt deposit pots so please use them.

Heat Exhaustion: Extreme heat can =
occasionally cause problems for the railroad but rail, signals and wiring=
can be replaced – you can’t. While we have built an unbelievable record =
of reliability over the past few years with new equipment, great host rai=
l systems and dedicated mechanical and train crews- delays always exist a=
s a possibility. For those sensitive to heat, plan to carry a bottle or t=
wo of water and other precautions in the unlikely event that you may have=
to spend a few extra minutes on the platform awaiting a delayed train.

Getting to the train: Altho=
ugh not specifically tied to the warmer weather, we’ve seen some alarming=
increases in passengers running after their train while its either wrapp=
ing up boarding or beginning to depart. NEVER run for the train, NEVER bo=
ard a moving train and NEVER try to access opposite platforms by walking =
on the tracks. Always use designated crossing locations or bridges.

Relocation of FRED Bus Stop
and Traffic Pattern Changes at City Commuter Lot at Fredericksburg VRE St=
ation

On April
22
the City is planning to make the following changes at the City own=
ed
commuter parking lot near the Virginia Rail Express (VRE) station.&=
nbsp;

This parking lot is designated as Lot B on
VRE=E2=80=99s Fredericksburg station web page.

The bus stop for the VRE Feeder Bus
Service (VF1 Bus) currently located inside the commuter lot will be
relocated to Caroline Street, near the entrance to the parking lot.
Bus stop signage will be relocated
accordingly.

All parking on Caroline Street next to
the commuter lot (between Frederick Street and the CSX overpass) wil=
l
become FRED bus parking only. Motorists will no longer =
be permitted to park on the east side of
Caroline Street next to the commuter lot.

The access to the parking lot off
Caroline Street will become an Entrance-Only. Commuters=
will need to exit the lot via
the Sophia Street access. Traffic
pattern signage will be posted at the Caroline Street access to indi=
cate
it as an entrance only. The Sophia
Street access will continue to operate as an entrance and exit.

For
questions regarding these changes, please contact Dave King at the Public=
Works
Department at (540) 372-1023 or by email at dking@fredericksburgva.gov=
