Corps Toys for Tots

&lsq=
uo;Tis the Season for Giving

=
VRE will be holding its annual Toys for Tots collection on Wednesday, Dec=
ember 5th.

=
Once again, we are helping the U.S. Marine Corps to distribute toys to le=
ss fortunate children that might not otherwise receive any gifts during t=
he holidays. The toys and donations by VRE riders will go towards making =
the holidays for underprivileged children in Washington a more special an=
d exciting time.

=
Participating is easy. Leave an unwrapped, new toy on your seat when you =
detrain that morning and our conductors will collect the toys after the t=
rain reaches the storage yard. Conductors will also be accepting donation=
checks and gift cards for the event. Please make your checks payable to:=
“Toys for Tots.”

=
VRE riders have always been very generous in the past and we would like t=
o continue this tradition by helping make this holiday season special for=
children who may not be as fortunate as others.

Woodbridge Santa Train Departs Station 10:30a

=20

If you or anyone you know purchased tickets for the Prancer Express, o=
ur Santa Train that departs from the VRE Woodbridge station on Saturday, =
December the 8th, the scheduled time for departure is 10:30a, like it is =
printed on the ticket. Our initial scheduled time of departure was 9:30a,=
which made it to some posters and on our website (which is now corrected=
), but again, the Prancer Express will depart Woodbridge Station at 10:30=
a on December 8th.

We apologize for any confusion and hope you enjoy the festivities.

VRE’s Annual Operation Lifesaver Santa Trains

Every year just before Christmas, kids and their parents are given=
the opportunity to ride a train and meet Santa and Mrs. Claus,=
who are on board VRE trains to promote rail safety and Operat=
ion Lifesaver’s “Look, Listen and Live” campaig=
n. There will be plenty of Santa’s helpers joining in han=
ding out candy canes and coloring books, along with high school =
choral groups and other festivity-makers.

We know it has been a long wait (as some of you have been anxious =
about Santa Trains since May), but information on the ever popula=
r Operation Lifesaver Santa Trains is finally here!

Again, the event, taking place on Saturday, December 8th uses this =
opportunity to remind people of the importance of rail safety. So=
remember, that this event is not just for fun, but it also has a=
serious and important message: “Look, listen and live!” from Ope=
ration Lifesaver.
The Santa trains will run out of four station=
s: Burke Centre, Leeland Road, Manassas and Woodbridge.

In addition, Operation Lifesaver Santa Trains also work in c=
onjunction with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots. So o=
n December 8th, our Leeland Road, Manassas, Burke Centre, and Woo=
dbridge stations will be drop off sites for the Marine Corps Toys=
for Tots Campaign. We are, therefore, encouraging everyone to br=
ing a toy to the Santa Trains so that someone less fortunate in t=
he Virginia area can share in the joys of the holidays.http://vre.org/se=
asonal/santa_trains/availability.html.

There will be one change, however, to Santa Trains this year. Becau=
se of crowding expected from the 150-year anniversary of the Battle of Fr=
edericksburg, we will run trains out of Leeland Road in Stafford instead =
of in the City of Fredericksburg. The Leeland Road station is across from=
Conway Elementary School.

Tickets go on sale Monday November 26th at 9 a.m. More information =
about ticket sales and trains can be found on the “What’s New” section of=
our home page at www.vre.org.

The tickets sell out fast, both online and in person. Last year, VR=
E sold 7,500 tickets.
