VRE Woodbridge “Kiss and Ride” to open Mo=
nday, January 30th

Alexandria, VA (January 27, 2012) – After much anti=
cipation, VRE and Prince William County’s newest addition to the Woodbrid=
ge VRE station will be opened to the public Monday, January 30, 2012. Dal=
e Zehner, VRE Chief Executive Officer, announced today that VRE’s W=
oodbridge Station “Kiss and Ride “ lot, located along Route 1=
, will open for Monday morning VRE service.

The project provides separated car and bus access from the northboun=
d lanes of Route 1, as well as improved pedestrian access. Construction c=
onsisted of surface grading and pavement, adding a turning lane on northb=
ound Route 1, concrete curbing, gutters, sidewalks, storm water drainage,=
crosswalks, a bus shelter, lighting, and signage all within a limited ar=
ea and a very busy thoroughfare.

VRE CEO Dale Zehner explained that work has been ongoing for some ti=
me at the site due to coordination with the proposed future development o=
f the Route 123/Route 1 interchange. The “kiss and ride” lot =
was designed and constructed to accommodate those future plans. Zehner no=
ted that once final plans were signed off by VDOT, Prince William and VRE=
quickly mobilized and completed the work in 3 months.

VRE Board Chairman Wally Covington said it is his hope=
that the new facility will provide commuters greater access to VRE and m=
ake commuting in the Route 1 corridor that much easier. Not only will the=
“kiss and ride” lot help VRE but Chairman Covington also not=
ed that it will also serve users of PRTC and Greyhound as well.

Train Talk:New Email Service
January 18, 2012 4:52 PM

Old Train Talk Versus New Train Talk

This week we have sent several messages via our new Train Talk service provider. If you receive this message, but did not receive any other Train Talk earlier this week then you may not be in the new system yet.

First check your junk folders. The new email system uses a different server/address so you might need to re-adjust your SPAM filters.

If you still have not received any Train Talks this week, please contact us at gotrains@vre.org and we will make sure that you are entered into the new system.

For the latest information, don’t forget to check out the VRE web site at:

delivery information, simply go to the VRE website at http://traintalk.vre.org .

Train Talk January 12, 2012 12:33 PM

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

***Systemwide Advisory***

Due to communications systems upgrades, RailTime train tracking screen on VRE’s website as well as Train Status screens at station platforms will not be operating for the mid-day service (FBG 301 & MSS 325).

We are anticipating these items to be back on-line for passengers by afternoon/evening service.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

Train Talk:Weekly Newsletter
January 10, 2012 2:30 PM

The following is in this edition of Train Talk:
1) New Train Talk Provider
2) Inclement Weather Reminder
3) Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday – No VRE Service – January 16th

1) New Train Talk Provider

Starting next week we will be transitioning from an old email news service provider to a new one. As with any transition there are bound to be hiccups.

Of course, we want everything to go smoothly without any inconvenience to our riders. If, however, after next week you find that you have any trouble at all with your Train Talk account, please notify us immediately at gotrains@vre.org and we will work to correct any issues.

2) Inclement Weather Reminder

It’s that time of year when snow may start to affect train service.

When there is a forecast for or presence of severe icy conditions or an accumulation of 8 or more inches of snow we may operate an “S” schedule.

For morning service, the decision to use the “S” schedule will be made by 4:30am.

If a snow emergency takes place in the evening, we will operate a regular schedule. While government offices may shut down early and the first departing trains may be busiest, we, unfortunately, cannot adjust our times or consists. These early dismissals simply do not allow us enough notification time to make such equipment changes.

If you have questions about which trains operate on an “S” schedule, please visit our website at http://www.vre.org/service/schedule.htm.

3) Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday – No VRE Service – January 16th

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, VRE will not run service on Monday, January 16th. Full service will resume Tuesday, January 17th.

Train Talk:Weekly Newsletter
January 4, 2012 3:28 PM

The following is in this edition of Train Talk:
1) Commuter Direct
2) Towing in Fredericksburg if You Park in the CSX Right of Way

1) Commuter Direct

We have received many phone calls about the long phone queues at Commuter Direct. If you are trying to get through please be patient with them as they have all hands on deck to accomodate the large number of customer inquiries. This surge of questions for Commuter Direct is result of the change in the transit subsidy and new customers that noramlly want to sign up after the new year. The silver lining is that they are in the process of adding 20% additional staff to help, but again will take some time.

2) Towing in Fredericksburg if You Park in the CSX Right of Way

For any riders who park in the Fredericksburg Overflow Lot, please be reminded that if you park past the no trespassing signs along the railroad, you may be towed. CSX track crews need to use that road to access the tracks.

Please do not park in the no trespassing area. Thank you.
