The festival includes arts and crafts, antiques, demonstrations, the Town Market, live music, children’s activities and lots of good food. Hours of operations are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Getting to Clifton Day:

VRE will run trains from the Manassas, Manassas Park, Rolling Road and Burke Stations to Clifton for free. Tickets for the return trip from Clifton may be purchased at the red caboose in Clifton for $5. Children aged 2 and under ride free with a fare paying adult. 3) Monday Oct. 10, Columbus Day – No VRE Service

Monday Oct. 10 is Columbus Day. There will be no VRE service. Service will resume Tuesday, Oct. 11th.

4) A Reminder to Validate Your Ticket

For a Monthly Ticket or a Transit Link Card (TLC) please remember to sign the back of your ticket in order to make it valid. We consider a signature to be a handwritten depiction of one’s name. It can be either printed or in cursive.

For a Ten-Ride, Two-Ride, Single-Ride and Free Ride Certificate, you must place these tickets into a vending machine (TVM) located on the platform. When the TVM prints a date stamp, the available ride is removed from your ticket and a validation is printed on the face of the ticket. These tickets must be validated each time you board.

To validate a Five Day Pass, place your ticket into the TVM located on the platform. Then the machine will print an expiration validation across the front of your ticket. This ticket only needs to validate the time it is used. Note: This ticket is AM/PM sensitive.

This message is for Woodbridge station riders:

The elevator on the far platform (Kiss & Ride side) at Woodbridge will be out of service for a few days due to flooding. We will work with CSX to avoid having trains on the far track until the elevator is fixed to avoid any complications.

Train Talk:Weekly Newsletter
September 20, 2011 1:48 PM

The following is in this edition of Train Talk:
1) Please Remove Bicycles from Franconia/Springfield Station
2) SmartBenefits Reminder
3) Old FRCs Expire Next June

1) Please Remove Bicycles from Franconia/Springfield Station

As a result of the upcoming station renovations at Franconia/Springfield, all bikes and locks must be removed from the station by the end of service on Thursday, September 22nd. All bikes remaining will be removed and donated to charity.

Thank you.

2) SmartBenefits Reminder

VRE Vendors will continue to accept SmartBenefit vouchers until November 30th.

After Nov. 30th riders will no longer be able to exchange the paper vouchers for VRE tickets.

Riders who now receive electronic SmartBenefits need to first:

1. Purchase a SmarTrip card.

2. Register that SmarTrip card

3. Create an account with WMATA or contact Commuter Direct

4. Assign your benefits to an Electronic SmartBenefits vendor

Each month, your benefits will then be automatically assigned to the same vendor, unless you choose to change it (by making a change in your account on the WMATA website).

There are many other Transit Benefit Options that VRE accepts, from pre-paid debit cards of many different types/issuers, to transit checks such as TransBen Checks or Commuter Check.

For more information, please visit http://www.vre.org/service/service-information.htm

3) Old FRCs Expire Next June

Just a 9 month heads up, but remember that FRCs have an expiration date. The latest batch (the teal and blue ones) expire on June 30th, 2012.

We’ll send reminders throughout the upcoming months. FRCs are not exchangable so if you happen to have a bundle of them, you may wish to remember to use them up.

Franconia/Springfield Renovations

The Franconia/Springfield rehabilitations will begin today Thursday, September 15th. The contractor will be working outside of peak travel times, but please be aware that the platform and stairs will be under construction for the next three months. Passengers should be mindful of signs and temporary fencing/blockades that will be placed throughout the work. The platform will remain open and work will be performed nearby.

We are planning to renovate the stairs as well and will send out another notification when the stairwell on the VRE side will close and a temporary stair structure will be opened to accommodate passengers. These stairs will be adjacent to the existing stair tower and will open at the same levels. The elevator will remain in service and unaffected.

Lastly, as the whole station will be repainted (platform, stairs, railings, etc.) we ask that passengers do not lock their bicycles to the back of the station and remove any locks on the railing. Any bicycles or locks attached to the station will be CUT and REMOVED next Friday, September 23rd, in the morning. Thank you for your compliance and understanding.
